WFDA Activities

WFDA is engaging in a variety of activities to promote democratization in Asia, guided by our founding document, the Taipei Declaration, and the current Framework for Action. Efforts concentrate on strengthening networks and mutual solidarity among the many organizations and advocates already active in the Asian region. The aim is to find synergies and common positions, rather than duplicate efforts.

WFDA holds our own networking events, centered on Biennial Conferences, which adopt the Framework for Action for each two-year period. In order to deepen the consultation process, a series of workshops are held before each Biennial to discuss strategies. To date, these activities have included:
· Second Biennial Conference (Manila, 19-21 September 2007)
· First Biennial Conference (Taipei, 15-17 September 2005)
· Strategy Development Workshops (December 2004, March and May 2005)

WFDA is acting to facilitate and enhance the voice of Asian democrats in international democracy forums, such as:

In the future, WFDA plans to undertake country specific missions, including election observations, as well as conferences on special themes within the scope of the Framework for Action.

WFDA also issues statements on situations of particular concern, and through this website we disseminate and publicize the views and activities of WFDA partners.
